Standard Five | Instructional Delivery
The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.

Reflection | SPED 405 Assignment A
This artifact is an assignment I created for my SPED 405 class in which I had to modify three different issues with teaching. In the third part of the assignment, I specifically modified a teaching experience that I had seen in which the teacher lacked classroom management.
I chose this artifact because within the assignment I dissected first the problems with the teacher’s instructional delivery; then, I provided options for ways in which she could improve listing bell-to-bell teaching, engaging lesson plans, and consistent behavior expectations as ways to improve the flow of the classroom.
This artifact meets this standard because I showed three different examples of how I would modify issues in the classroom with one dealing specifically with instructional delivery. For the assignment, I modified a lesson with bad classroom management by highlighting better alternatives that I would use in my classroom.
This artifact is an appropriate representation of this standard because I showed a variety of ways in which instructional delivery could be improved, thus improving the education of all. Within the assignment, I addressed problems dealing with instructional methods and classroom environment in order to help balance the problems arising from a diverse classroom.
This artifact demonstrates my growth and development as a teacher I took a negative observation of teaching and analyzed the core of the problem. I then addressed ways that the teacher could modify instruction in order to gain better control of the classroom and engage students more thoroughly. As a growing teacher, I need to be able to recognize problems with my teaching in order to improve. By addressing how I would resolve problems that I saw in my observational experience, I show the ability to grow and develop as a teacher that I will continue to use in the future.
This artifact indicates my knowledge of instructional delivery because in order to complete the assignment, I had to first uncover the main issue creating the problems in the classroom. Then, I had to offered reasonable solutions to the situations. In this case it was necessary for the teacher to gain control of the class at the start by using a probe to get students started, and then maintaining her expectations so that the rest of class followed as well.

Reflection | Julius Caesar Circle Discussion
This artifact is a lesson and image in which I modified the way in which the students were instructed in order to elicit a different kind of response. I changed the desk set-up one day so that we were shaped into a circle, providing us with the best option for discussing the literature and allowing the students to see themselves as leaders in the topic.
I chose this artifact because in this role, I changed from the teacher, who typically provides the students with the lesson, into the facilitator who aimed to keep the discussion on track. Also, with the desks re-arranged, the students experienced a new way of discussing Julius Caesar where they guided their understanding to one another as a whole class.
This artifact meets this standard because the lesson shows how I modified my instruction as to provide my students with the best learning environment necessary. I not only changed the way that I taught, but also changed the set-up so that the students would be best engaged in learning.
This artifact is an appropriate representation of this standard because knowing that the students were struggling with Julius Caesar, I modified the instruction so that they could bring up the issues that they wanted and grab onto what they understood about the play. I used this lesson to help assess what the students knew for my own purposes, but also to let them show each other that they were understanding the plot more than they had previously mentioned.
This artifact demonstrates my growth and development it took time during my student teaching for me to develop the relationship with my students in which I felt comfortable placing them in a circle discussion where they essentially became responsible for discussion. Also, I was not able to truly recognize what my students needed until after working with them for some time.
This artifact indicates my knowledge of instructional delivery because after scaffolding, reading, watching, and writing about Julius Caesar, I realized that the students needed another way to connect with the text where they felt responsible for what they were learning.
