Reflection | Diigo and Google Reader News Feeds
I chose this artifact for Standard Two, Content Area and Pedagogical Knowledge, because with both of these news-sharing feeds I can remain in constant update of the latest news and teaching practices in my field. Preparing my students for a global world requires that I understand new technology and maintain the ability to access information online while also remaining an avid reader.
This artifact meets this standard because it provide me an opportunity to keep up with news and world occurrences in order to maintain my knowledge of my content area as the information grows. This is an important aspect of my role as the English teacher as I strive to teach culturally relevant material while also promote lifelong learning.
This artifact is an appropriate representation of this standard because both Google Reader and my Diigo account enable me to learn the latest in English and teaching current curriculum thus allowing me to share that knowledge with my students. Working with Google Reader allows me to continually receive new information and connects me to one of the latest tools in managing websites and blogs. Google Reader works as a Personal Learning Network because it connects me with multiple, varying sources of information so that I may always learn and stay connected to technology. With my Diigo account, I am able to connect with a group of people in the same field as me, which furthers my ability to stay connected to technology and gain access to resources. Working within the Diigo group, I am able to share ideas with fellow teachers and others interested in education. By maintaining these connections, I allow myself the opportunity to grow and continue developing as a teacher.

This artifact meets this standard because the writing required that I take my research-based ideas and apply them to real life situations. In the essay, I concluded that while Standard English is important to understand, it is not the most practical and appropriate style of English for all learners.
